The historico-geographical expedition "Baikal - Alaska" has started in Irkutsk. The participants plan to go the route which follows the 200 year-old route of Russian merchants from Baikal to Alaska.

The route of the merchants was more than 10000 kilometers. The first route stage started using sport utility vehicles, then down the Lena river to Yakutsk.

The second route stage will start on August 14th from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. It will be a passage on a sailing yacht in the Sea of Okhotsk for 6 days. There will be a stop at the Kuril islands.

The goal of the expedition in 2016 is to explore the route. The third and the fourth route stages will be in 2017.
